Traditional Korean commencement ceremony

Graduates of Sungkyunkwan University bow during a Confucian ritual at the school in Seoul on Aug. 25, 2023, to mark its second commencement ceremony of the year. The ritual called "goyurye," which is traced back to the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910), is to inform former saints of such auspicious events as school entrance, graduation and building completion.
