Controversial park for late communist composer

Work to build a park for Chinese revolutionary musician Chung Yool-sung (1914∼1976) is underway at his birthplace in Gwangju, 267 kilometers south of Seoul, on Aug. 28, 2023, despite opposition from the government and conservative forces. Chung had composed marches for the Chinese and North Korean armies during the 1950-53 Korean War. Born in Gwangju, Chung was naturalized in China in 1956. (Yonhap)
