Seoul shares hit fresh high again late Thurs. morning
SEOUL, Jan. 15 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks hit another intraday record high late Thursday morning on gains from auto and shipbuilding shares.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) added 23.83 points, or 0.5 percent, to 4,746.93 as of 11:20 a.m.
Despite a weak opening, the index touched an all-time intraday high of 4,757.35 points at 10:11 a.m.
Auto and shipbuilding shares drove the record-breaking performance.
Top carmaker Hyundai Motor rose 1.82 percent, and its sister Kia jumped 3.64 percent.
Leading shipyard HD Hyundai Heavy Industries added 1.95 percent, and Hanwha Ocean advanced 4.23 percent.
Pharmaceutical giant Samsung Biologics gained 2.75 percent, and K-pop powerhouse Hybe increased 2.27 percent.
Chipmakers traded mixed as Samsung Electronics, the world's largest memory maker, edged up 0.14 percent, but SK hynix declined 0.54 percent.
The local currency was trading at 1,469.6 won against the greenback at 11:20 a.m., up 7.9 won from the previous session.
