Indonesia's Prabowo to pay state visit to S. Korea for summit with Lee

SEOUL, March 13 (Yonhap) -- Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto will make a state visit to South Korea from March 31 to April 2 for summit talks with President Lee Jae Myung to discuss bilateral ties, Cheong Wa Dae said Friday.

Prabowo is scheduled to hold summit talks with Lee on April 1, in what will mark their second meeting since early November, when the two leaders met on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in South Korea.

"The two leaders plan to discuss ways to strengthen practical cooperation in areas including trade, investment, the defense industry and security, as well as artificial intelligence, infrastructure, shipbuilding, nuclear energy, energy transition and the cultural sector," presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung said in a written briefing.

They are also expected to hold in-depth discussions on ways to promote South Korea's relations with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) as well as the security situation and other global issues, including the Korean Peninsula and the Middle East, the spokesperson added.

Indonesia, a key ASEAN member with the world's fourth-largest population and abundant natural resources, is also an important defense industry partner for South Korea.

Bilateral defense cooperation centers on the joint development of South Korea's KF-21 fighter jet, launched in 2015 and now in the final stage of development.
