SEOUL, May 18 (Yonhap) -- Regulations on the loaning period of cultural assets that were shipped broad for cultural exchanges such as exhibitions have been extended from 3 to 10 years.

The Cultural Heritage Administration announced on the 18th that it had promulgated an amendment to the Cultural Heritage Protection Act, stating that a cultural asset can be loaned for 10 years from the date it was taken overseas.

As a result, the Cultural Heritage Administration can receive an application for an extension on the loaning of cultural assets, which was originally scheduled to be sent abroad for three years, and later extend the loaning period by seven more years after screening.

An official from the Cultural Heritage Administration explained, "So far, there has been no provision to extend the period of cultural assets taken out overseas, and it has been difficult to respond to urgent situations due to the outbreak of the corona virus.

This amendment goes into effect on November 19th.
