SEOUL, July 5 (Yonhap) -- South Korean actor So Ji-sub has been set to star as the leading role in a new medical and legal drama "Doctor Lawyer (tentative lawyer)" during the first half of next year, announced MBC TV on Monday.

The drama follows the story of a genius surgeon who becomes a lawyer specializing in medical litigation after being robbed of everything due to a fabricated operation and a medical crime prosecutor who lost both his family and lover in the operation. The two characters start to punish the villains and console the victim.

So Ji-sub acts in the drama as Han Yi-han, the main character who was once a genius surgeon but is now a lawyer specializing in medical litigation.

Han Yi-han is a double-board genius surgeon who graduated from Korea's top medical school and has two specialists in general and cardiothoracic surgery. Dubbed the "Monster Doctor" for his excellent skills as well as his natural cheerfulness and charm, Han Yi-han loses his qualifications as a doctor after his patient dies in a surgery he thought had been successfully performed.

This is the first time in four years where So Ji-sub will be returning to the TV screens since the 2018 MBC drama "My Secret Terrius."

The screenplay of "Doctor Lawyer" will be written by Jang Hong-cheol, the writer of drama "Class of Lies and directed by Lee Yong-seok, who made "Haechi," "The Village: Achiara's Secret" and "Iljimae." The production companies for the drama are Celltrion Entertainment and Mongjagso.

An official from MBC Drama Studio said, "Doctor Lawyer" will have both medical and legal drama charms, providing fun and unique content to the viewers while also portraying the charismatic appearance through the main character who fight against the absurdities of the world."
