Statue of Korea's first Catholic priest to be erected in Vatican
This undated photo, released on Sept. 7, 2023, by the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Korea, shows a virtual sculpture of St. Andrew Kim Tae-gon (1821-1846), the first Korean native Catholic priest, that has been installed on the exterior wall of St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City. The South Korean Catholic Church will take part in a ceremony on Sept. 16 to mark the dedication of the statue of the Korean martyr wearing a "gat," a traditional Korean hat, and a traditional men's outfit called a "dopo" in Korean. Kim was canonized and made a saint with 102 other martyrs by Pope John Paul II on May 6, 1984. (PHOTO NOT FOR SALE) (Yonhap)
