Statue of Korea's first Catholic priest to be erected in Vatican

Workers install a sculpture of St. Andrew Kim Tae-gon (1821-1846), the first Korean native Catholic priest, on the exterior wall of St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City on Sept. 5, 2023, in this photo released by the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Korea. The South Korean Catholic Church will take part in a ceremony on Sept. 16 to mark the dedication of the statue of the Korean martyr wearing a "gat," a traditional Korean hat, and a traditional men's outfit called a "dopo" in Korean. Kim was canonized and made a saint with 102 other martyrs by Pope John Paul II on May 6, 1984. (PHOTO NOT FOR SALE) (Yonhap)
