SEOUL, July 3 (Yonhap) -- St. Louis Cardinals' starting pitcher Kim Kwang-hyun, who turned the winning clock again after 11 games and 68 days, will challenge his first consecutive win of the season against the San Francisco Giants, which has the highest winning rate in the U.S. Major League in 2021.
The South Korean left-hander is scheduled to start at 7:05 a.m. on the 6th (KST) at Oracle Park in San Francisco, California.
The Giants, where Kim Kwang-hyun will face off for the first time since his MLB debut in 2020, are ranked first in the western division of the National League with 51 wins and 30 losses (win rate 0.630) as of the 3rd. The win rate is 1st in the MLB.
Team OPS ranked fourth overall with 0.758 and first in the National League.
There are so many batters to watch out for.
Among the hitters that Kim Kwang-hyun may face is Darin Ruf, who played for the Samsung Lions in the KBO League from 2017 to 2019. He was strong with four hits, one home run and four RBIs in nine at-bats against Kim Kwang-hyun during his KBO career.
Ruf, who has played for San Francisco since 2020, has batted 0.242, six home runs and 15 RBIs in the big league this year.
After winning his first win of the season against the Cincinnati Reds on April 24, Kim Kwang-hyun lost five games without a win in 10 appearances.
Against the Arizona Diamondbacks on July 1, he hit a final double at bat and pitched five innings allowing three hits and one run to harvest his second win (5 losses) of the season.
