SEOUL, June 6 (Yonhap) -- The beaches of six cities and counties on the east coast of Gangwon Province will open for 52 days from July 8.
The Hwandonghae headquarters of Gangwon Province announced on Monday that it plans to open 84 beaches on the east coast by August 28 starting with Gangneung and Yangyang on July 8.
Opening hours will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Some beaches will be allowed to enter at night during the peak season (July 22 to August 7).
Seven beaches in Gangneung, including Jumunjin, Okgye, Jeongdongjin, Sagunjin, Gangmun, Anmok, and Sacheonjin, are considering extending the acquisition time until 7 p.m. while the Gyeongpo and Sokcho beaches are considering to open until 9 p.m.
During the opening period of the beach, various festivals will be held to provide fun and enjoyment to vacationers.
Gangneung City will hold the Gyeongpo Blue Festival from July 11th to the 18th and Donghae City will hold the Mangsang hip-hop contest from July 28th to August 2nd.
In Sokcho, the Summer Festival will be held from July 30th to August 5th.
Vacationers who visit the beach can check the level of beach congestion in advance through the sea travel website (seantour.kr).
Choi Sung-kyun, head of Hwandonghae Headquarters, said, "We will make all-out efforts to attract vacationers and prevent water accidents by setting the goal of operating the beach this year to achieve 20 million tourists and zero safety accidents."
