SEOUL, Aug. 10 (Yonhap) -- “2021 Manhae Festival” is to be held in Inje-gun, Gangwon Province from 12th to 13th of August to commemorate the spirits and accomplishments of Manhae Han Yong-un, who was a poet, a Buddhist priest and an activist for Korea’s Independence during the Japanese colonialism.
The topic of the 23rd Manhae Festival this year is “Hope·Surmount.”
All offline events including calligraphy contest and high school essay contest, have been converted to online or reduced into no more than 49 participants due to the spread of the COVID-19 infection.
The best part of the Manhae Festival, Manhae Award Ceremony will be held by the Inje Cultural Foundation in Inje-gun, at 2 p.m. Aug. 12.
The receivers of Manhae Prize are figures who most widely influenced the world with the Manhae spirits. The receivers are selected from three fields, peace, practice and literature.
The winner of peace prize has been decided as Daniel Barenboim, a world-famous conductor and pianist. But he will not be able to attend the ceremony.
Buddhist priest Bogak, the chief director of dubbed “Jajaegondeoghoe,” a non-government social welfare organization, and Kim Ha-jong, head of “Annahouse” for people in need, have been selected to receive the practice award.
Novelist Oh Jung-hee and Kang Sue-jin, chief of Korean National Ballet, have been awarded with the literature prize.
