SEOUL, May 10 (Yonhap) – The first episode of “Woori the Virgin,” S. Korean remake of the popular American drama “Jane the Virgin,” started off around 4 percent in viewership.

The first episode of “Woori the Virgin,” which was aired on May 9 at 10 p.m., recorded a viewer rating of 4.1 percent, according to the ratings company Nielsen Korea on Tuesday.

The episode depicted the story of Oh Woo-ri(Im Soo-hyang), who strictly maintained her chastity before marriage, having a baby of Raphael(Sung Hoon) due to a medical accident.

“Woori the Virgin” made a remake of the “Telenovela” genre, which is evaluated to be beyond the Korean provocative dramas. Although it was concerned over whether it could persuade the Korean viewers, the first episode seems to be receiving favorable reviews.

As the drama portrays the past narratives between Oh Woo-ri and Raphael(Sung Hoon) as well as Raphael's story of wanting to find his destiny, people say that the drama strengthened its identity as a romantic comedy genre, rather than a telenovela genre.

Moreover, the point where Oh Eun-ran(Hong Eun-hee), Woo-ri’s mother who had to give up her dream of becoming a singer due to a sudden pregnancy at a young age, was found to be the reason for maintaining chastity drew great sympathy of the viewers.

The playful acting of the two main leads, Im Soo-hyang and Sung Hoon, also goes along with the series while adding fun.
