59.8% agree and 38.8% disagree to alternative service of BTS in public-opinion survey

SEOUL, Sept. 16 (Yonhap) -- 60% of S.Korean citizens agreed to replace mega star BTS' obligatory millitary service to alternative service in a public-opinion poll.

According to a wireless ARS telephone survey conducted by polling agency InnerTex Systems where 3,004 men and women aged 18 or older participated nationwide at the request of the Internet media PolyNews on Tuesday, 59.8% agreed to "switch BTS' obligatory military service to alternative service."

38.4% said "Very agree'" while 21.4% said "Agree."

Disagree was 38.8%, 21.0% lower than Agree. "Disagree" was 17.5% while "Never disagree" was 21.3%.

By age group, "Agree" rate was high among middle-aged people, 63.4% in their 40s, 66.9% in their 50s, and 68.5% in their 60s and older. "Disagree" votes in age group was, 54.4% of those aged 18 to 29, 43.6% of those in their 30s, 50.0% of those in their 30s, and 47.9% of those in their 10s and 30s.

For "Agree" vote, There were more votes from women, 62.3%, than men, 57.3%.

For the question "Did BTS help enhance national prestige," 88.1% positively responded, 58.4% said "Very" while 29.7% said "In some measure."

52.7% of respondents agreed to "Switching to alternative services in the field of public culture and arts," which was lower than the question to "switching to alternative services only for BTS."

The response rate of this survey was 2.5 percent, with a total of 68,779 people. The sampling error is ±1.8% points at the 95% confidence level.
