SEOUL, Nov. 23 (Yonhap) -- International Conference to shed light on cultural worthy and to restore remains of Mt. Jeongji in Gongju city, a ritual facility of royal family in Ungjin period of Baekje, will take place at Gongju National Museum on Nov. 25.
According to Gongju City on Wednesday, at the international academic conference co-hosted by the Chungnam Institute of History and Culture and the Gongju National Museum, Professor Kwon Oh-young of Seoul National University will give a keynote speech on 'the meaning and value of the remains of Mt. Jeongji during the Ungjin period of Baekje'.
Five scholars, including Professor Chae Mi-ha of Korea National University of Transportation, will give a presentation on the value and meaning of Mt. Jeongji and seek ways to use contents for its maintenance and restoration.
During the comprehensive discussion (chairman Kim Soo-tae, Chungnam National University professor), the present and future of the Jeongjisan site will be discussed.
The ruins of Mt. Jeongji in the hilly districts of Mt. Jeongji in Gongju city are presumed to be the national ritual facilities of Baekje during the Ungjin capital period.
Convex tiles engraved with eight lotus petals, which were used only for important national facilities, was discovered here, and relics related to national ancestral rites were excavated including a jang-go-shaped bowl holder with facny decorations.
Mayor Choi Won-cheol said, "I hope that the cultural value of Mt. Jeongji, the core of the royal capital of Baekje during the Ungjin period, will be widely known at home and abroad, and measures for maintenance and restoration close to the original will be possible through this symposium."
