SEOUL, March 18 (Yonhap) -- Apink's Kim Namjoo has returned with a bold solo stage after four years.

Approaching her 14th year since debut, Kim Namjoo introduced her new single 'BAD' at a showcase held in Gangnam-gu, Seoul on the 18th, stating, "The bold transformation is the point of this release," and added, "I tried to show a fresh appearance."

Debuting with Apink in 2011, Kim Namjoo embarked on solo activities in 2020 with the single 'Bird,' revealing a strong and confident image. She said, "What's different from 'Birld' is that human Kim Namjoo has experienced significant growth over the past four years," attributing this change to both personal and group experiences.

Despite facing various challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic and issues with Apink's agency contract renewal, Kim Namjoo explained that such adversities became opportunities for growth.

Kim Namjoo expressed, "I've been preparing for solo activities since last fall and smoothly decided on the title," adding, "Everything seemed to proceed swiftly."

Concerned about the bold transformation, she revealed that she even asked her members for feedback, hoping they would encourage her to be bolder.

The title track 'BAD' delivers a confident message of not caring about others' negative opinions.

Kim Namjoo stated, "When I heard this song, I felt strongly that 'I have to do this.' It was like, 'I don't care about others' opinions; this is Namjoo's song.'"

She also shared her experience of confidently pushing for Apink's title track 'I'm So Sick' when everyone hesitated.

Furthermore, the track 'Mirror, Mirror' featuring actor Daniel Henney's narration gained attention for its retro disco-pop influence. Kim Namjoo explained, "It's a retro-themed disco pop track, and Daniel Henney readily accepted the invitation to participate."

Kim Namjoo hinted at Apink's comeback within the year, stating, "We are preparing for Apink's activities," and added, "Our new album will have exciting songs as its direction."

Regarding her decision to remain with her current agency, she expressed confidence that they would preserve Apink well and recalled discussions where the group and Apink were prioritized.

Kim Namjoo also expressed her aspirations to establish herself as a recognized female solo artist, saying, "I want to be recognized as a female solo artist and also chart on the US Billboard. I will work with the mindset of a rookie."
