SEOUL, Mar. 8 (Yonhap) -- A documentary film that follows the life and art world of the late South Korean sculptor Kwon Jin-kyu has been slated to be produced.
Producer Myung Film has inked a business agreement with the Seoul Museum of Art and the Kwon Jin-kyu Memorial Association to produce the documentary with the tentative title of “The Story of Kwon Jin-kyu.” Myung Film and the Association will take the helm, along with the Museum cooperating in filming and providing sources for the documentary.
Baek Ji-sook, the director of the Seoul Museum of Art, said, “I hope the upcoming documentary will serve as an opportunity for more citizens to delve deeper into Kwon’s life and his art world.”
Kwon, along with Park Soo-geun and Lee Joong-seop, has been widely acknowledged as one of the three gurus of Korean contemporary art. Born in Hamheung in 1922, the artist moved to Japan in 1948 and graduated from Masashino College of Art in 1953. After coming back to his homeland in 1959, Kwon continued his work and died in 1973 at the age of 51.
