SEOUL, May 5 (Yonhap) – A superhero genre “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (Doctor Strange 2)” attracted more than 1 million viewers within a day of release.
According to the data from the Korean Film Council (KOFIC) on the 5th, “Doctor Strange 2” attracted 710,000 viewers on the day of its release, and hit 1 million viewers this morning.
It is the fastest pace since the pandemic. "Spider-Man: No Way Home," which was released in December last year, also exceeded 1 million cumulative viewers on the second day of its release, but the number of audiences on the first day was 630,000 people.
A box-office hit of “Doctor Strange 2” has already been expected, hitting over 1 million tickets of pre-sales on the day before its release.
“Doctor Strange 2” became the third movie to hit 1 million cumulative viewers this year, following "The Pirates: The Last Royal Treasure" and “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore.”
Its box-office hit is expected to be continued for a while, with national holiday and weekend interspersed with workday starting from the Children's Day and having no controversial work to compete with.
“Doctor Strange 2” recorded 87.3% of ticket sales and 720,000 pre-order audiences as of 1:30 p.m. on this day. As of the previous day, the screening share reached 74.5%.
