SEOUL, Feb. 28 (Yonhap) -- South Korean budding actor Yoon Chan-young, 22, who plucked to stardom with his role in Netflix’s mega-hit zombie series "All of Us Are Dead," has taken the main lead in Genie TV’s upcoming fantasy rom-com “Delivery Man.”
Yoon expressed his affection for the forthcoming television series at the press conference held at Seoul’s Sindorim D-Cube City on Tuesday by saying, "This is my very first television series I shot as an adult, so I put my utmost effort while feeling way more responsibility."
Genie TV’s "Delivery Man" is a fantasy-mystery television series featuring Seo Young-min (Yoon Chan-young), a taxi driver who unexpectedly comes to drive a taxi exclusively for ghosts, and Kang Ji-hyun (Bang Min-ah), an unidentified ghost who lost her memory.
In regards to his role as a taxi driver, Yoon explained, "He is a taxi driver who is desperate to earn money in order to protect the happiness of his family by driving a taxi that his deceased mother used to drive,” adding, "He may appear to be stingy and cool-headed in the first few episodes. However, as the story unravels, I will be showing his warmer and brighter sides."
When asked to compare and contrast his roles in “All of Us Are Dead” and “Delivery Man,” the 22-year-old actor replied, "I was chased by zombies in ‘All of Us Are Dead,’ but I come to communicate and be friends with the ghosts in'Delivery Man.’ I come to listen to the stories of the ghosts I encounter and symphasize."
The actor added, "It is no exaggeration to say that the ghosts who ride on the taxi are the main characters of our drama. I hope you enjoy watching the stories of ghosts.”
The unidentified soul Kang Ji-hyun is played by Bang Min-ah, 30, who also was a member of the now disbanded girl group Girl's Day.
When asked why she decided to star in this work, Bang said, "I wondered how the romance between a ghost and a human being will end up," adding, "The eight-year gap with Yoon was quite pressuring at first as he was the youngest actor whom I have ever co-starred with for a romance drama. But as soon as I began working together, I thought, 'Oh, we are perfect.'"
“Kang Ji-hyun appears as a ghost who takes a firm stance against the strong people but takes a generous stance for the weak,” the singer-turned-actress explained.
Producer Kang Sol, who was in charge of delivering the television series, said, "There are many drama series and movies that talk about ghosts. However, 'Delivery Man' is a human-drama that deals with our emotions," adding, "It is a story that sheds light on people around us who are facing harsh realities."
This upcoming fantasy rom-com will hit the small screens via the local cable channel ENA on Mar. 1.
