SEOUL, May 14 (Yonhap) -- Seoul Gangnam Police Station has booked singer Kim Ho-joong (33) for suspicion of causing a hit-and-run accident and fleeing the scene on a road in Gangnam, Seoul, late at night.
According to the police, Kim is suspected of colliding with a taxi coming in the opposite direction on a road in Apgujeong-dong, Gangnam-gu, at around 11:40 PM on the 9th of last month, and fleeing the scene (failure to take measures after a traffic accident under the Road Traffic Act).
Initially, a staff member from Kim's agency visited the police station and claimed that he was the one involved in the accident. However, after confirming that the vehicle was registered under Kim's name, the police questioned him, and it was reported that Kim admitted to driving the car himself.
Kim's agency, Think Entertainment, explained, "On the evening of the 9th, Kim Ho-joong was involved in a traffic accident with a taxi." They stated, "After the accident, Kim Ho-joong parked the car in an alley, had a conversation with his manager, and meanwhile, the taxi driver reported it to the police."
They continued, "Subsequently, the manager, who learned about the situation, went to the police station and admitted that Kim had been driving." They added, "Upon learning of this fact, Kim Ho-joong personally went to the police station to undergo investigation and alcohol testing."
The police are also investigating the possibility of Kim driving under the influence of alcohol. However, the agency stated that the test results did not show any suspicion of drunk driving, and they are waiting for the results of the accident investigation.
Furthermore, they stated, "At the time of the accident, Kim Ho-joong was unable to properly handle the aftermath due to being flustered," and "We apologize for causing social controversy. The agency and Kim Ho-joong promise to do their best for the post-accident process."
Kim Ho-joong gained popularity under the nickname "Trotarotti" after appearing on the TV Chosun trot competition program "Mr. Trot."
