SEOUL, June 17 (Yonhap) -- Muju county, North Jeolla province will be holding an event at the area of Hanpung pavillion at 6 p.m. on June 24 to commemorate the 1st anniversary of Hanpung pavilion being promoted to a national cultural property “treasure.”
The event was organized to celebrate one year of Hanpung pavillion being designated as a national treasure and to promote the excellence of Muju Culture.
Starting with gilnori (Muju Guncheong~Hanpungryu) led by the Muju Nongak Preservation Association, the festival will be decorated with a ceremonial performance by the Dance Flower Dance Company, a commemorative ceremony, and a Muju singer contest.
Along with Namwon Gwanghallu and Jeonju Hanbyeokdang, Muju Hanpung Pavilion is a representative pavilion in Honam with many famous people visiting it.
While it has been protected as Jeollabuk-do Tangible Cultural Property No. 19 since 1973, it was promoted to a national cultural property "treasure" in June last year from the Cultural Heritage Administration considering the historicity (early Joseon architecture), wood carving technique, architectural artistry and its uniqueness.
