SEOUL, Mar. 8 (Yonhap) -- A digital complex cultural center incorporating cutting-edge technology into the cultural domain will be built at the Naju National Museum.

The Museum will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the digital complex cultural center that will also have a concert hall and a children’s museum on Mar. 17, the Museum confirmed Wednesday.

The upcoming complex cultural space will combine a slew of cutting-edge technologies, including augmented and virtual reality (AR and VR), into the cultural domain. This 23 billion-won-worth project is scheduled to be completed in the second half of 2025 as a venue providing various cultural services that could not be offered on account of spacial limitations in the museum-oriented main building.

The total building area will be about 4,400 square meters along with a 300-seat performance hall, a children’s museum, experiential facilities, storage, and rest areas for visitors.

The high-tech storage will be equipped with the latest facilities and storage systems to efficiently and safely store cultural assets excavated from the Honam region.

The architectural design will be reflecting the concept of Cha Kyung, a traditional architectural principle that placed the ancient tombs in the interior, focusing on the landscape characteristics of the Museum that is situated and perfectly blends in with the surrounding nature.

The Museum explained that once the cultural center is completed, it will serve as a high-quality cultural space where visitors can freely enjoy diversified cultural experiences along with ancient tombs in the city.

“We are looking forward to the repercussion effect that this complex cultural center, where the nature and history will coexist, will have on revitalizing the economy and expanding the local residents’ right to enjoy culture by serving as an essential foundation for the local tourism industry,” an official from the Naju National Museum of Korea said.
