S. Korean production of Disney Theatrical Productions’ hit musicals to be put on stage

SEOUL, Feb. 22 (Yonhap) -- An array of representative and pre-eminent musicals produced by Disney will be put on stage in Korea. The first runner will be the Korean production of the mega-hit musical “Aladdin,” which will be staged next year.

The Korean-based stage play and musical production companies Clip Service, S&Co, and Lotte Culture Works have joined hands with Disney Theatrical Productions, also known as Disney on Broadway, which stands as the flagship stage play and musical production company of the Walt Disney Company. The Korean firms and Disney Entertainment’s subsidiary officially signed a business agreement at 7 p.m. on Wednesday (KST).

Based on the agreement, these companies will produce and present pre-eminent musical works that Disney has showcased on Broadway, including “The Lion King,” “Aladdin,” “Beauty and the Beast,” and “Frozen” in Korean.

The very first co-production will be the recent Broadway mega-hit musical “Aladdin,” which will be presented at the Charlotte Theater in Songpa-gu, Seoul in Korean language next year.

Thomas Schumacher, the President of Disney Theatrical Productions that have been producing several outstanding musicals that also garnered nationwide attention in South Korea including “Aida” and “The Lion King,” said, “We hope that this agreement will contribute to the incessant growth of the Korean performance industry.”
