SEOUL February 3 (Yonhap) -- “I can’t believe how well we got along, I was just happy the entire way through the production of the movie ‘SoulMate,’” adding “Shooting this film with Jeon So-nee made me extremely happy and I was surprised by the fact that we were able to connect with one another.” Addressed actress Kim Da-mi throughout the press conference of the upcoming movie “SoulMate” held on Friday.
Continuing on actress Jeon So-nee stated “I tried my best not to rush things, so that we can gradually become close with one another,” adding “I knew I could count on Kim Da-mi and every moment we spent together throughout the production was a blessing. Sometimes I felt like I was led by Da-mi in certain scenes.”
Upcoming South Korean movie “SoulMate” which will premiere on March 15 is based on a Hong Kong movie “Soul Mate” from 2017, depicts love and friendship in between two female protagonists.
Actress Kim Da-mi acted out the protagonist Mi-so with bright smile and pure and free soul, where as actress Jeon So-nee acted out Ha-eun who is more down to earth and quiet. Actor Byeon Woo-seok acted out Mi-so and Ha-eun’s friend Jin-woo.
Director Min Yong-geun addressed “I think we all have someone that we automatically imagine once we close our eyes,” adding “As we progress throughout our lives, we tend to find out more of who that person is and how important that person is, also we tend to realize who we are through a sudden realization. That sudden moment was one of the reasons which motivated me to direct this film.”
As for the uniqueness of the upcoming film from the original Hong Kong film, director addressed “We have put more emphasis on the emotional development throughout the film.”
Moreover, director stated “The original version of ‘Soulmate’ has that resonance which give out the vibe that character and the plot will remain despite of the time, therefore when given the right setting I thought the characters of the movie will be able to fully elaborate the characters. Also one of the uniqueness within the Korean version of the movie is that the aspect of drawing plays a very important role as a motif.”
“We have tried our best to act out the characters in more South Korean ways instead of copying and pasting from the original version of the movie.” addressed actress Kim Da-mi.
Movie “SoulMate” takes place in Seoul and Jejudo Island. In order to film the scenes in Jejudo Island, actors and production crew stayed in Jejudo Island for about month and a half.
“Jejudo Island is like a droplet of sweat from our younger days, the place gave the characters more depth and resonance.” director Min Yong-geun looked back into the days of production.
“When filming in Jejudo Island, the road we took to get to the shooting spot was just amazing, and when we were done with our shooting, often times we would take photos of the sunset at the production site and share it with one another, and ate a lot of good food and more. As time progressed I think the line between the reality and character faded away.” stated actress Jeon So-nee throughout the press conference.
The movie “Soulmate” starts off in 1998, when Mi-so and Ha-eun first encounters one another. As time progress forward, various props such as MP3 players, Folder phones, arcades, and more which will trigger the audiences nostalgia will appear throughout the movie.
