SEOUL February 21 (Yonhap) -- Sandgrouse which has been spotted in South Korea in 76 years has been captured through photos and videos by Yonhap News Agency.

The Unique, Sandgrouse which has been spotted within the Eastern seaboard of Gangwon province attracted some of the bird lovers, however not many of the people have managed to capture the bird in photo of video form.

Sandgrouse was first spotted by the bird watcher on mid January at the field nearby the lower part of the stream located within the Eastern seaboard of South Korea.

Later on a lot of birdwatchers have gather around the nearby area in search for the Sandgrouse for days, however they were out of luck.

It was highly likely that the bird has already left the spot and traveled to somewhere else.

Later on, after certain period of time has passed Sandgrouse was spotted at a very different place than its original point of appearance. This time Yonhap News Agency has managed to capture the Sandgrouse on camera.

The captured photo of the Sandgrouse suited perfectly to the title of the bird because it was hunting for food on the field of sand.

When the Yonhap News Agency spotted the Sandgrouse it was moving around the field of sand busy of eating seeds and more. While eating various seeds scattered through the field of sand, Sandgrouse flew up in the air and flew around the surrounding and carefully landed back on to the sand field and continued to eat the seeds.

Judging by the size of the Sandgrouse, it must have fully adapted to the surroundings, because it seemed like it was well fed.

Yonhap News Agency has decided to reveal the look of Sandgrouse as the bird has left the area of spotting and certain amount of time has passed since it was spotted at the scene.

However, for safety purposes, Yonhap News Agency has decided to leave the exact location and the date of spotting under a secret while disclosing the photos of the Sandgrouse.

According to the database of the National Science Museum, two of the Sandgrouse has been captured at the lower end of the Han River in 1908 and later on captured in Dangin-dong within the Mapo district of Seoul South Korea in 1947.

Based on the database, Sadngrouse has been spotted in South Korea for the first time in 76 years since it was last spotted in 1947.

Due to the rarity of the information, most of the search engines feature vague information regarding the Sandgrouse and even within some of the encyclopedia of birds published in South Korea excludes Sandgrouses from the list due to its rarity.

According to the recorded data, 12 of the Sandgrouse was spotted in North Korea in 1991.

Sandgrouse which posses similar outlook to a dove, Sandgrouse usually feeds off from the seeds within dried fields, deserts and more where small grasses grow in herds.

Since the known spotting site of the birds are Caspian Sea board, Gobi Desert, Deserts within Middle Eastern countries and more, it is extremely hard for people to spot Sandgrouse in South Korea.

According to one of the ecologist on Tuesday, “Sandgrouse which was spotted within the East Coast of South Korea seems to have lost its way to the original destination,” adding “In my perspective, whether the increase in unique and rare bird spotting within South Korea has something to do with the global warming needs more studying.”
