SEOUL, May 13 (Yonhap) -- From starring as the supporting role in tvN's "Crash Landing on You" to the lead role in drama "Mr.Queen," actor Kim Jung-hyun (31) was gradually reaching his height of popularity.
However, once he started to get embroiled in controversies regarding his private life and conflicts between his agency on the termination of his contract, everything went downhill for the actor.
When Kim announced his contract with his previous agency, O&Entertainment, was expired and his stance on recent allegations on the 12th, O&Entertainment refuted the allegations. StoryLime, a PR agency in charge of Kim's personal promotion, said in an official statement, "The exclusive contract period with Kim Jung-hyun's agency is over and we are trying to restore the damage inflicted on the actor and clear any misconceptions."
Kim claimed that even before being cast to the MBC drama, "Time," he had mentioned his health problems to O&, however the agency failed to care for the actor by enforcing him to take the role. In addition, when O& was in the process of going out of business, the agency raised issues related to Kim Jung-hyun's contract to the media.
Despite these issues, Kim Jung-hyun had remained silent so far, which the actor later explained he was being considerate for his agency, since he felt guilty and morally bad about withdrawing from "Time." However, the actor signaled to take "legal action against any claims regarding the terminated management contract that involve defamation and false accusations."
In return, O&Entertainment issued a statement on the same day and refuted, "Kim Jung-hyun's claim related to O&Entertainment is one-sided and different from the truth."
O& went on explaining that "In the process of reorganizing our business structure, six actors except Kim Jung-hyun smoothly went along with their contracts under mutual agreement until they expired."
"On the other hand, Kim did not carry on with his career for 11 months because of personal reasons, which is why we believed his contract should be handled differently," O& added.
Later on, local tabloid Dispatch reported that Kim Jung-hyun refused to come in contact with his co-star Seohyun during the press conference and on-set for the drama "Time" in 2018.
It was reported that the Kim eventually dropped out from filming because of the constant demands made by actress Seo Yea-ji, who was romantically involved with Kim Jung-hyun at the time.
Without directly mentioning Seo Yea-ji, Kim Jung-hyun apologized, saying, "I have no excuse, I apologize for my mistake and for not being able to fulfill my responsibilities as the main character and actor of the drama."
