CHANGWON, Oct. 21 (Yonhap) -- A multicultural festival, MAMF (Migrants’ Arirang Multicultural Festival) will take place both on and offline from the 22nd to the 24th.

This is the 16th anniversary of MAMF which was first held in Seoul in 2005 and moved to Changwon City South Gyeonsang Province in 2010.

Although last year’s festival was held 100% online due to the spread of the COVID-19 infection, for this year’s festival offline events such as Multicultural Horror Parade will take place.

This year’s parade will be under the theme “Multicultural Horror Festival: Na Hee” in which Korea’s traditional performance team, “Jingwang” (translated) and traditional ghost form 9 Asian countries will march through.

The ghosts include Jiangshi of China, Manananggal of the Philippines, Bhoot of Nepal, Sanni Yakuma of Sri Lanka and Buto Ijo of Indonesia. They are all cultural icons throughout each country’s history

The Asian people tried to overcome a crisis upon their community such as a pandemic or a famine through exorcism rituals using ghosts.

The Asian ghosts in MAMF will exert its presence to show all of our wishes to be free of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The festival will also include Multicultural Drawing Contest, Cultural Performance of Korea, China and Japan, Asia Pop Music Concert and more.
