SEOUL November 25 (Yonhap) -- South Korean National research institute of Maritime Cultural Heritage addressed on Friday that they have located a sunken transport ship filled with pottery at the ocean located in South Jeolla Province.

South Korean National research institute of Maritime Cultural Heritage received a call identifying a sunken ship which the diver found while digging for the clams under the ocean located in Goheung County within South Jeolla province. As a result South Korean National research institute of Maritime Cultural Heritage successfully located the sunken ship near the given location.

The sunken ship was located 7 meters deep and was filled with various pots, and pottery objects, addressed the research facility.

Ship that was found under water seemed to have submerged under water near Sorokhwado Island while transporting the pottery from Bonghwang Pottery town.

Based on the features found from the pottery within the transportation ship, researchers identified the time of the accident to 1950s.

White Porcelain Bowls found under water are made using white sand with enamel finish.

There has been two maritime incidents recorded from the 1950s near Goheung Country by the people of Bonghwa pottery town.

In early 1950s where three of the towns people who sailed onto Yeosu City in order to sell the pottery went missing near the Geogeumdo Island, and the other incident was from 1954 where a transportation ship went missing near the coast of Nokdong located in Goheung County.

In both cases, all of the crews went missing, and none of the pottery that was on board on the ship was retrieved.

Due to the discovery of sunken ship the research facility now has a key to take a step further into understanding the method used to create pottery within modern era and the transportation method used for distribution. Also sunken ship might provide family members who are left behind with the truth in 70 years.

South Korean National research institute of Maritime Cultural Heritage will continue on with the sunken transportation ship, and host a requiem for the crew members who have lost their lives due to unfortunate incident.
