SEOUL, Mar. 17 (Yonhap) -- South Korean drama film “Sumbisori” (romanized title) set on Jeju Island is gearing up for its production.

Producer Wonder Film will be producing a film about sea women (haenyeo), who harvest sea life for a living, in Jeju for two months, according to the Island on Friday.

The title refers to an ancient-old breathing technique that has been practiced by these sea women for centuries. It is taught from one generation to the next, and they come to make this sound after resurfacing from underwater.

This upcoming drama film will follow the heartwarming story of three generations of women including a mother and daughter, who have lived their entire lives breathing under the sea, and a granddaughter. Director Lee Eun-jeong, who won the Seonjae Award at the 20th Busan International Film Festival in 2015, took the helm.

In addition, Oh Hyun-am from Jeju Island, who has credits for delivering the Netflix original series “Narco-Saints,” will also be joining the production crew.

Actress Lee Sun-bin, who is best known for her lead role in tvN’s television series “Work Later, Drink Now,” has confirmed to star in this film set by the ocean. Lee will suit up as the granddaughter, Goo Hae-jin, and will depict the struggles of youth.

Jeju Island will also be holding its hand by helping in casting major filming sites and preparing fishing boats from the village.

“We will actively support both domestic and international videos that will shed light on haeneyos so that the unparalleled originality of our haenyeo culture, which is also registered by UNESCO, would get to be known more widely at home and abroad,” said Jeong Jae-cheol, the chief executive of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries of Jeju Island.

The release date or teaser image is yet to be unveiled.
