SEOUL, Feb. 8 (Yonhap) -- South Korean actor Kim Min-kyu, who is best known for his role in SBS’s mega-hit drama series “Business Proposal,” will return to the small screens by taking the lead role in the upcoming romance-fantasy drama “The Heavenly Idol.”

TvN’s forthcoming Wednesday-Thursday drama will be his last work before joining the military. Kim emphasized during the online press conference held on Wednesday that he wanted to “demonstrate that [he] is a multi-faceted actor with a wide acting spectrum.”

The upcoming drama will depict the story of Daeshin Kwan Rembrary, the high priest from another world who came to this one to fight against the demon king and wakes up in the body of a handsome, but unknown idol in the fifth year of debut, Woo Yeon-woo.

Rembrary is a handsome-looking, kind, and warm-hearted character, who devoted himself to God with all his might despite being born in the lowest class. He eventually becomes the youngest ministerial official who receives recognition and respect from the people.

However, he collapses while confronting the resurrected devil king for the first time in 200 years and finds himself waking up in the present world for unknown reasons. The genial official struggles to go back to his world as soon as possible in order to save the people in crisis.

The 28-year-old actor said, “I tried to remind the viewers that Rembrary, who seems to be living as a member of a boy band, is in fact a ministerial official who is from another world.”

The television series, based on Naver’s web novel and webtoon of the same name, added romantic elements and new characters to the original work: The drama sees actress Ko Bo-gyeol as Kim Dal, a huge fan of Woo Yeon-woo and the new manager of Wild Animal. The actress said, “I tried to reveal the sides of Kim Dal that I have in myself while acting.”

Television presenter Taek Jae-hun also returned to the small screens in 13 years -- he plays Sun Woo-sil, one of Korea’s top four vocal singers, who is widely recognized as the god of vocalists but a senior curmudgeon.

Tak said with a smile, “I have appeared as a cameo in several dramas, but it has been more than a decade since I have actually starred in a drama,” adding, “I did not expect the director to ask for me to act genuinely rather than comically. We made this unbelievable story to be unbelievably enthralling. ”

The upcoming Wednesday-Thursday drama, starring Kim Min-kyu, Go Bo-gyeol, and Lee Jang-woo, will premiere on Feb. 15 at 10: 30 p.m.
