SEOUL, April 30 (Yonhap) -- The 'SM ENTERTAINMENT SQUARE' sign has been put up in downtown Los Angeles, which is considered the mecca for the American entertainment industry.
An official sign has been set up at the intersection of 6th Street & Oxford Ave in Los Angeles, to guide ‘SM Entertainment Square,” according to SM Entertainment, Saturday.
Earlier, the LA city council named "SM Entertainment Square" to honor the achievements of SM and chief producer Lee Soo-man in the global music market by leading the K-pop craze in 2020.
In particular, the sign also included a phrase introducing general producer Lee Soo-man as a "pioneer of the Korean Wave and global K-pop phenomenon."
Executive producer Lee Soo-man received the Los Angeles mayor's plaque in 2005 for his contribution to leading the K-pop craze at home and abroad. He was the only Korean to be named on the "Variety 500" list selected by the U.S. pop culture magazine Variety for five consecutive years.
SM is the first Korean entertainment to enter its name in the symbolic street in the U.S.
The sign also introduces Lee with the phrase, “Pioneer of the Korean wave and the global K-pop phenomenon.”
Chief producer Lee received a medal from the Los Angeles mayor in 2005 for his contribution to leading K-pop globally. Lee was the only Korean to be named on the "Variety 500" list selected by the U.S. pop culture magazine Variety for five consecutive years.
