SEOUL February 6 (Yonhap) -- Founder Lee Soo-man of one of the biggest entertainment agencies SM Entertainment’s resignation is causing an opinion clash within the company in between those who agree upon the decision and those who goes against.
As the South Korean artist Kim Min-jong publicly took a stance going against the resignation of the executive producer Lee, some of those who work within the SM Entertainment are speaking up regarding the subject matter of reassignment and renovation of the production system.
According to the music industry on Monday, South Korean singer and actor Kim Min-jong sent out an email throughout the company criticizing the resignation of the executive producer Lee and the newly introduced SM 3.0.
“Co CEOs Lee Sung-soo and Tak Young-joon, who supposedly does their best to bring the good to SM Entertainment has addressed the resignation of the executive producer Lee without any discussion between workers.” addressed Kim Min-jong throughout his email.
Both of the co-owners of the entertainment agency disclosed the information regarding the resignation of the executive producer Lee and how the SM Entertainment will leave behind the single headed producing system and casually lead into the Multi producing system where the 5 of the creation center will independently produce tracks along with internal and external labels on February 3.
Especially CEO Lee Sung-soo addressed “Although the contract between executive producer Lee and SM Entertainment has come to an end, we send our greatest gratitude towards former executive producer Lee who continues to help out the company as the major stock holder.”
Current CEO Lee Sung-soo is a cousin of Lee Soo-man, and Tak Young-joon started off his career as a manager and continued on with his career alongside producer Lee Soo-man for a long period of time. However, two of the co CEO of SM Entertainment has publicly announced the renovation of the producing system of SM Entertainment despite of how Lee Soo-man feels about it, therefore it is assumed actress and singer Kim Min-jong sent out a criticism regarding such stance.
“Why do you think the Assistants of Lee Soo-man received a raise way before the annual departmental reorganization, why in such a hurry, what could have they been afraid of to a point where they needed to proceed with the plan to provide raise for the assistants, they have solidified and confirmed on their stances in the morning of lunar new year when everyone was with their family celebrating the new years.” criticized actor and singer Kim Min-jong throughout his email.
Moreover, actor addressed “I personally do not believe, such shift will be beneficial to any of the stock owners of SM Entertainment,” adding “Every artists who works for the SM Entertainment needs the creative sense of our executive producer Lee Soo-man. I am well aware of how old he is and how the trend of K-pop shifts drastically, however, those things can be managed if we all work together.”
Major shareholder Lee Soo-man was in a grave shock after receiving such news on February 3. He has not been in his office ever since the announcement was made. As the shareholder’s meeting of SM Entertainment is expected to happen in March, addressing the subject matter during the meeting is considered as a suitable option for Lee Soo-man at the moment.
However a lot of people working for the SM Entertainment are also raising their voices regarding the need for the renovated process of the production of music.
According to the social media BLIND which provides anonymous opinion board for various companies, opinions such as “SM Entertainment which has fallen behind the race between entertainment agency needs major reformation,” adding “SM Entertainment needs to move on from their previous glory.”
SM Entertainment is yet to publicly address such problems.
