SEOUL, Apr. 12 (Yonhap) -- Despite keeping some viewers sitting at the edge of their seats with the leading roles’ meticulous investigations, tvN’s Monday-Tuesday historical series "Our Blooming Youth,” starring Park Hyung-sik and Jeon So-nee, wrapped up with an average national rating in the range of 4 percent.
The finale of this fantasy period series, aired at 8:50 p.m. Tuesday, scored an all-time high rating of 4.9 percent.
The final episode captured Lee Hwan (Park Hyung-sik) and Min Jae-yi (Jeon So-nee) realizing their feelings for one another while confronting the class difference, leading to a happy ending.
The couple, who broke the curses and made themselves free from all kinds of false accusations against them, forgave the perpetrators and broke the vicious cycle of revenge.
Lee Hwan promised to send the people of the Byeokcheon Village, which was wrongfully labeled as a rebellious province of traitors, back to their respective hometowns and to exterminate every discrimination against them.
"Our Blooming Youth" seemed to have a rather seemingly straightforward and predictable plot line for a period series by capturing the constant power struggles between a nominal crown prince, who was only a figurehead, and the opposing force threatening his position, as well as the romantic relationship between him and a woman from a prestigious family.
Although the way the series unraveled the main conflict was analyzed to be too obvious, its unique mysterious elements featured while the leading roles solved inexplicable cases added enough excitement to the show.
Meanwhile, the series kicked off with a rating of 4.2 percent rating in the first episode but soon sled down to 3.6 percent only in its second episode as the female lead began receiving some negative comments on her vocalization and acting skills. Since then, the ratings remained in the range of 3 percent right until the final episode.
