◇Celebrities donate for victims of heavy rain in S.Korea

Celebrities in the entertainment industry have been donating to the Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association for victims suffering due to heavy rain in hope for quick recovery.

K-pop boy group Got7’s Park Jin-young, Yim Si-wan, and Hong Soo-yeon donated 30 million won, 20 million won, and 10 million won respectively to the Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association on Tuesday, their agencies announced.

South Korean actress Kim Hye-soo also donated 100 million won, according to her agency HODU&U Entertainment on Wednesday.

Comedian Yoo Jae-suk and Psy both donated 100 million won to help out with the recovery process of those who suffered from the wild rainfall.

South Korean actress Kim Go-eun and actor Kang Tae-oh donated 100 million, 50 million won, and 20 million won respectively to the Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association, according to their agencies on Friday.


Comedian Park Na-rae and actress Yoon Se-ah each donated 10 million won on as well.

Singer and actress IU (Lee Ji-eun) and Suzy also donated 100 million won each to help neighbors affected by the heavy rain, The Hope Bridge National Disaster Relief Association.


Hope Bridge Secretary General Kim Jeong-hee said, "I am sincerely thankful for the dedication and help of those, including IU, who gave courage to neighbors in despair."

Since its official release on Aug. 5, "Carter" has been gaining popularity on Netflix despite mixed views on its electrifying action and patchy melodramatic plot.

The Korean action thriller "Carter" has debuted at No. 1 on Netflix's latest weekly viewership chart of non-English films.

Released Aug. 5, the Netflix Korean-language original marked 27.3 million hours of viewing for the week of Aug. 1-7 to lead the official top 10 list for non-English films available on the service, according to Netflix on Tuesday (U.S. time).

It became the first Korean-language film to top the streamer's chart for the category since Netflix released the weekly viewership data in late June last year.

"Carter” also made the top 10 of the most-watched non-English TV shows in 90 countries over the one-week period.

The movie is about an amnesiac agent named Carter, played by Joo Won, who is ordered to bring a girl to North Korea to serve as an antidote for a pandemic that hit the Korean Peninsula.

Director Jung Byoung-gil said, "All action scenes were filmed in one unbroken take" in a press conference in Seoul. "If there was a mistake on the set, we had to start again from the beginning. It took a lot of time and effort."



◇'Hansan: Rising Dragon' exceeds total of 5 million audiences

South Korean blockbuster movie “Hansan: Rising Dragon” about admiral Yi’s Battle of Hansan island, exceeded over 5 million viewers on its 15th day of premier on Thursday, announced provider Lotte Entertainment.

“Hansan: Rising Dragon” is the second South Korean blockbuster movie to have exceeded over 5 million viewers, following “The Round Up.”

 

S.Korean blockbuster received positive feedback by capturing one of the world's four well known naval battles, the battle of Hansan Island and the characteristics of a wise admiral Yi spotlessly.

Meanwhile, Mayor of Asan, Park Gyeong-gwi awarded an appreciation plaque during the special viewing event held at Lotte Cinema located in Asan Express Bus Terminal, to thank director Kim Han-min for helping out with the advertisement of the city Asan, also known as the hometown of admiral Yi.

Director Kim Han-min’s second movie out of three he has planned about admiral Yi, “Hansan: Rising Dragon” is about the Battle of Hansan island where South Korean navy fights off Japanese navy force using Geobukseon or “Turtle Ship.” S.Korean actor Park Hae-il acted out admiral Yi, Byun Yo-han acted out the Japanese admiral Wakisaka throughout the movie.
