SEOUL, Oct. 19 (Yonhap) -- 11 Korean films such as short movies and web dramas including "Broke Rookie Star" starring Astro's Rocky were invited to the World's largest web series film festival "LAWEBFEST."
LAWEBFEST 2022 will take place at KCCLA in LA, U.S.A on Nov. 4 to Nov.5. After additional events, the winning work will be announced on Nov. 5 at 4 p.m. (Local Time).
7 web series including "Broke Rookie Star" and "User Not Found," and 4 short movies such as "JajangMyeon Thank You" were officially nominated, according to LAWEBFEST committee head, director Kang Young-man, on Oct. 20.
"Broke Rookie Star" won the best picture and the best actor award at "2022 Seoul Webfest," the very first web series festival in Korea. The web drama depicted desparate survival of less popular member of hit group comically.
The web drama was nominated for three categories at "LAWEBFEST 2022," Best diretor, Best Actor, and best Seris awards.
Boy group CIX member Bae Jin-young's "User Not Found" was nominated for Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Drama. The drama won the Best Drama award at "2022 Seoul Webfest."
"JajangMyeon Thank You," co-directed by Lee Tae-sung's mother Park Young-hye and director Shin Sung-hoon, is also expected to take the award home. The drama is based on the true story of a married couple with disabilities and has been receiving good feebacks by showing at film festivals aborad recently.
The drama was nominated for Best Director, Best Short Film, and Best Drama at "LAWEBFEST 2022."
"Main Street," starring Kim Min-ha who appeared in the drama "Pachinko," was nominated for Best Actress and Best Short Film.
Director Kang said, "I have got a lot on my shoulders to be the executive director of LAWEBFEST, one of majr film festival of Hollywood," adding, "I want to promote Korean contents since the market for Over-The-Top or web content market will continue to expand."
LAWEBFEST began in 2009 was temporarily suspended after the death of its founder, Michael Azaqui, in May 2018. Director Kang took over as the executive chairman, reactivating after four years. Director Kang will lead the festival for the next five years.
Web dramas, which are short content aired online in Korea, are called web series in foreign countries, where the genre is more diverse. With the expansion of mobile market, 50 film festivals for web series are being held around the world.
