SEOUL, May 2 (Yonhap) — The Oscar winning film "Minari" surpassed 1 million viewers in 60 days after its release in Korea.
“Minari” is the second film this year to reach 1 million viewers since Pixar's animation film, "Soul" in February.
According to the Korean Film Council (KOBIS), "Minari" recorded a cumulative audience of about 1009,000 on May 1st, the 60th day of its release.
"Minari," which has been at the top of the box office for three consecutive weeks since its release on March 3rd, was relegated after the Hollywood blockbuster "Godzilla vs. Kong” was released.
“Minari” then entered the top ranks again before and after the 93rd Academy Awards held on April 26th. In particular, as Youn Yuh-jung won the Best Supporting Actress Award, the immigrant film rose to second place at the box office on April 27th.
It is the second time since Pixar's animation “Soul” has surpassed 1 million viewers this year. "Soul" was released on January 20th and recorded more than 1,05,000 viewers on February 4th.
