SEOUL February 21 (Yonhap) -- In the beginning of the movie protagonist Hae-woong acted by Cho Jin-woong is very excited because he is expected to be nominated as the next runner up of the congressman from Haeundae district of Busan.

South Korean movie “The Devil’s Deal” is a crime drama movie which depicts a story of protagonist Hae-woong taking a step closer to the power. Hae-woong acted by Cho Jin-woong who suffered from the plans of antagonist Soon-tae acted by Lee Sung-min to throw him off the course of race creates alliance with gang leader Pil-do acted by Kim Mu-yeol.

The movie bases off on the subject matter of politics and the battle between three characters in order to hold on to the power they have. As the story proceeds throughout the movie, Hae-woong stumbles upon the confidential documentation regarding the renovation planned for the Haeundae district in Busan. With this information Hae-woong attracts Pil-do to be on his side while going up against Soon-tae.

The lesson being portrayed throughout the movie is very vivid, throughout the movie Soon-tae states “Politic is like working with the devil, and in order to hold on to the power you are willing to sell your soul to the devil.” Soon-tae’s line depicts how in order to succeed in politics, one needs to give up the purity and ambition. That is the reason why the movie is titled “The Devil’s Deal.”

Protagonist Hae-woong who toured around the town meeting the people who have been worried sick because of the potential threat of losing their homes due to the plan for renovation of the town, vanishes throughout the movie. After he gets dropped out of the nomination, for the upcoming general election, Hae-woong is overwhelmed with disappointment which fuels his ambition to seek revenge on Soon-tae.

When Hae-woong addresses “This world is corrupted and life is filled with unfairness.” which was Soon-tae’s line to Hae-woong towards the beginning of the movie, the movie well describes the transition of Hae-woong who is left with ambition and thirst for power from the one who cared about the people.

Director Lee Won-tae who portrayed the process of two antagonists who join forces in order to take down the even bigger evil throughout the movie “The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil,” showcased Soon-tae who is doing his best in order to protect his power, and Pil-do and Hae-woong who tries to grasp the power as protagonists of the film “The Devil’s Deal.”

Three of the actors, Cho Jin-woong, Lee Sung-min and Kim Mu-yeol who participated in the production as protagonists and antagonist supports the audience to truly focus into the movie itself.

Actor Cho Jin-woong managed to depict the process of how a normal husband figure of a regular household can change as he slowly falls deeper into the crave for more power. After Hae-woong gets rejected from being the next nominee for the general election, the protagonist goes back and forth between the state of emotionally over driven by his hankering of revenge, and ambition for power, and his arrogance and fear after withholding a power.

Moreover, actor Lee Sung-min who has participated in the production of recently ended South Korean drama, “Reborn Rich” as a protagonist Jin Yang-chul, has returned with a very deep and mysterious character throughout the movie “The Devil’s Deal.” Actor Kim Mu-yeol who has participated in the movie as a leader of a gang with charismatic hair cut with more built body physique showcases unique character throughout the movie with impressive Busan dialect.

One of the things to look out for while watching the movie is characters relationship with one another. The scene where Soon-tae faces Hae-woong hypes up the tension created throughout the movie. Despite of the minimal amount of lines, both actors Cho Jin-woong and Lee Sung-min showcases the impressive battle between two figures using only the glare and their facial expressions.

However, the most important object of the movie the confidential document fails to withhold any importance other than what audiences have already seen through various other political movies.

“There are a lot of various movies which uses the subject matter of Politics, however this movie uses a politician as the protagonist,” adding “I wanted to dive deep into the basics of power and how it is attained.” addressed director Lee Won-tae.

Movie “The Devil’s Deal” will premiere on March 1.
