SEOUL, Jan. 10 (Yonhap) -- SM Entertainment, with group NCT, Exo, and aespa, sold about 18 million copies last year.
SM artists dropped a total of 25 albums last year and more than 15,043,000 copies were sold according to the entertainment, Monday.
The entertainment sold 2.578 million copies of albums released before 2021.
The combined annual album sales amounted to 17.621 million, a double from the previous year, SM explained.
Among the artists, boy group NCT’s subunit NCT 127 and NCT Dream stood out.
According to SM's announcement last month, NCT, NCT 127, NCT Dream, and WayV sold 10,911,000 copies and exceeded the 10 million mark last year.
NCT Dream set the record by selling 3.31 million copies of its 1st album “Taste” and the June repackage album “Hello Future.”
NCT 127 reached a triple million-seller by selling 3.62 million copies of the third album “Sticker” and the repackage album “Favorite.”
In addition, the albums released by Exo and Baekhyun each set a record of exceeding 1 million sales.
A total of 25 albums of SM artists were ranked within the No. 100 of the Annual Album Chart, accounting for a quarter in the Gaon Chart operated by Korea Music Content Association.
“We once again realize the content power and artists’ status of K-pop, which has continuously produced global K-pop stars over the past 26 years,” said SM.
