SEOUL March 22 (Yonhap) -- Attention of the public is being drawn into whether the famous South Korean film spot Saemangeum will transform into Hollywood filming studio in the near future.
According to the North Jeolla province on Wednesday, OCT E&M recently met up with the mayor to discuss about the construction of mass production facility within the grounds of Saemangeum.
OCT E&M is a collaborative production company made by South Korean film company Doorenm and American special effects company XM2.
Throughout the business presentation OCT E&M addressed how the Hollywood studio planned for Saemangeum will be able to bring in a lot of benefit and potentially provide Saemangeum to be the next Hollywood studio.
Mayor of the city also agreed upon providing support to the project such as reviewing the laws regarding the construction of the studio and more.
However, since the plans for the construction is at the beginning stage, the government plans to make the final decision on whether to provide full support or not by closely looking into the benefits of the construction.
According to the official from the province government “We do agree that Saemangeum has a potential of becoming the next film production complex,” adding “However, since there are a lot of processes to be looked over, therefore we cannot push the construction forward at the moment.”
Saemangeum is well known for being featured in various movies due to its beautiful nature and scenic view.
South Korean movie “Ashfall,” “Kundo : Age of the Rampant,” drama “Hotel De! Luna,” “Crash landing on You,” and K-pop superstar BTS’ music video of “SAVE ME” was filmed in Saemangeum.
