Yeongdong county known as Gamgoul busy under processing of producing dried persimmon

SEOUL October 25 (Yonhap) -- Yeongdong county located within Northern Chungcheong province also known as “Gamgoul” is busy drying persimmons.

Orchard, located within the county in Yeongdong harvest persimmons from right before sang-gang (October 23 according to solar calendar) until right after to produce dry persimmons.

If the persimmons are dried for period of 50 to 60 days, it becomes dried persimmon where as if dried for 40 days, it is considered half dried persimmon.

“This year we were able to harvest decent quality of persimmons and the daily temperature difference is high therefore dried persimmon produced this year are expected to taste really sweet” stated the Orchid owner Mr. Kang from Yeongdong county.

Yeongdong is known to be one of the center for producing dried persimmon along with Sangju city.

Around 5900 ton of dried persimmon was produced in Yeongdong county on 2021.

5900 ton accounts for about 70 percent of persimmons produced from Northern Chungcheong province, and 7 percent of overall production of persimmon throughout the county.

Total of 2400 ton of dried persimmon were produced in Yeongdong county.

The nickname Gamgoul comes from over 19 thousand aligned persimmon trees next to 159 km long of the road located within Yeongdong county.

Every fall well ripped persimmons from the trees located alongside the road creates unforgettable scenery.
