SEOUL, Feb. 25 (Yonhap) -- The Korea Heritage Service’s Royal Palaces and Tombs Center and the Korea Heritage Service Foundation said Wendesday that this year’s spring Royal Palace Culture Festival will take place from April 25 to May 3 at major royal palaces in Seoul.

The Royal Palace Culture Festival is a cultural event held every spring and fall, offering a wide range of performances and hands-on programs set against the backdrop of royal palaces — including Gyeongbokgung Palace, Changdeokgung Palace, Deoksugung Palace and Changgyeonggung Palace — as well as Jongmyo Shrine. About 1.37 million people visited the event last year, marking a record high.

This year’s spring festival will be held under the theme “Palaces and Royal Tombs Become Art.”

The two organizations are recruiting volunteer participants, known as “Goong-ee Doong-ee,” through March 12 via an online application process.

Korean nationals born before 2007 and foreigners who can communicate in Korean are eligible to apply. Around 70 volunteers will be selected following document and video screenings.

Selected volunteers will receive official uniforms and transportation allowances. They will also be granted free admission to the four main royal palaces during the festival and will be issued certificates of completion and volunteer service verification upon finishing their duties.
