SEOUL, Dec. 8 (Yonhap) -- The former manager of actor Shin Hyun-joon, who sued his ex-manger for raising suspicions of mistreatment and illegal use of propofol, was sentenced to probation in prison during the first trial.

The Seoul Central District Court sentenced the former manager surnamed Kim, who was accused of defamation, to one year in prison, two years of probation, and 200 hours of community service on Wednesday.

The court declared that "the defendant had malicious articles published on major media outlets with a clear intention of damaging the victim's social reputation and honor," adding, "the defendant is repeatedly claiming to have suffered damages from the victim, and is pleading for severe punishment."

Kim was handed over to trial earlier this year after reporting to the media that he was treated unfairly, such as receiving insults and running errands for Shin's family while working as the actor's manager last July.

Kim also filed a complaint with the police on Shin's alleged illegal administration of propofol, and sued Shin for defamation. However, Shin refuted the allegations, saying it were not true.

The police reported that Shin's propofol administration was not illegal and the defamation complaint was also cleared by the prosecution.

After Kim's trial, Shin Hyun-joon's agency, HJ Film, said, "Shin Hyun-joon and his family have gone through difficult and painful times due to the false accusations," adding, "We hope that the act of damaging another person's social reputation will never happen again."
