SEOUL December 1 (Yonhap) -- Title holder of South Korean National Intangible Cultural property of Namsadang nori (Vagabond troupe’s performance) deceased Park Yong-tae was known for his hand skills and as a performer.

As a 17 year old boy, Park Yong-tae learned how to puppeteer from the previous title owner of Namsadang Nori, Nam Woon-ryong. Later on he continued on with his learning regarding various skills sets and toured around South Korea to perform a show.

“Korean Day” event held in Disney Land located in Los Angeles on 1986, Park Yong-tae participated in the event to showcase puppet making, which led the rewarding of the title of South Korean National Intangible Cultural property in 2002.

Back when National Intangible Cultural Property Park Yong-tae was a live all he wanted was to find a solid inheritor of the Namsadang nori who can perform “perfectly,” “As taught by forefathers.” Park Yong-tae addressed, “Since I am an artist, all I want is to perform at Namsadang and to see the crowd having fun after a successful performance.”

Just like Park Yong-tae showcased, series of books regarding the efforts National Intangible Cultural Property has put into inheriting the South Korean traditional culture has been published.

National Intangible Heritage Center addressed on Thursday that 5 part series of books regarding the lives of Intangible Cultural Property has been published.

Biographies published within 2022 are the ones for Park Yong-tae, followed by Kim Il-man, who holds the title of Earthenware Making, Gu Ja-dong, with title of Gijisi Tug of War, Lee Gi-jeon with title of Royal Ancestral Ritual in the Jongmyo Shrine, Kim Soon-hui with title for Mask Dance Drama of Yangju, and more.

Title holder Kim Il-man was born into a family of Earthenware Makers tells a story of how he managed to successfully feed five of his children and the path he walked solitarily. Whereas Kim Soon-hui title holder tells a story of her pride as a female performer of Mask Dance Drama of Yangju.

Series of books that are published regarding the National Intangible Cultural Property title holders, are based on the bibliography project conducted by the National Intangible Heritage Center in 2011.

Bibliographies are written as if the title holders are directly speaking at the reader, moreover, it includes extra information regarding the time period and more to further the understanding of the series. Including five of the books published in 2022, total of 50 books have been published regarding the National Intangible Cultural Property
