SEOUL, Jan. 20 (Yonhap) -- "Culture Day," which allows the public to access cultural facilities for free or at discounted rates, will be expanded to every Wednesday.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said Tuesday it has issued a legislative notice on a revision to the Enforcement Decree of the Framework Act on Culture to change "Culture Day" from the last Wednesday of each month to every Wednesday.

Since January 2014, the ministry has designated the last Wednesday of each month as "Culture Day," offering free admission to major state-run cultural facilities and discounted fees at private venues such as movie theaters.

As public participation rose sharply from 28.4 percent in 2014 to 84.7 percent in 2024, calls grew to expand the program, prompting the ministry to move forward with the revision.

The ministry will collect public opinion through the National Participation Legislative Center (http://opinion.lawmaking.go.kr) until Feb. 28.
