SEOUL, October 28 (Yonhap) --The Seoul Museum of History opened the special exhibition of donated collections, "The Museum Loved by Seoul Citizens," to mark its 20th anniversary of opening on Friday.

The Seoul Museum of History has been receiving donated objects from 1996, before the opening of the museum in 2002, to today from citizens under the slogan "a museum made by citizens" and has received donations of 200,000 pieces from 755 people. The donated pieces account for 70% of the total relics at the museum.

This special exhibition is divided into three periods: where Seoul's history and culture-related relics were collected ahead of the opening of the museum in 2002, when data related to urban history museums were collected in 2010, and other periods when materials related to popular culture and art were widely received.

Kim Yong-seok, the director of the Seoul Museum of History, said, "We cannot express in words how valuable these donated relics are," and added, "We could not display all of the important donations we received from all of the citizens due to the limited space, but we will be exhibiting all of the donations that we missed this time after preserving them safely."

The exhibition started on Friday and will last until April 9. It is free admission starting at 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. on weekdays and weekends, and it is closed on Mondays, except on holidays.
