SEOUL, March 18 (Yonhap) -- Hybe announced on the 18th that it will introduce sustainable materials for its 'Weverse Albums,' where music is enjoyed via QR codes instead of CDs.

Starting from the debut album of rookie girl group AILEE, Hybe will apply recyclable and biodegradable materials to Weverse Albums.

A Weverse Album is a digital album where music and photo content can be enjoyed through a dedicated app via a QR code instead of a physical CD. Cards and photo cards with QR codes to access music or photo content are included in paper album cases.

Hybe introduced the new Weverse Album as having "all paper album cases and components replaced with sustainable materials to increase recyclability."

They explained that the album packaging vinyl will be made from biodegradable material extracted from cornstarch, and the paper album cases and photo cards will be changed to a water-soluble coating material that dissolves well in water. Additionally, the QR cards made of conventional plastic material will be replaced with paper.

The paper used for album cases and components, as well as printing, will be produced using FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified paper and soybean oil ink, as in the past.

Hybe stated, "Weverse Albums reflect the trend of listening to music digitally and aim to provide fans with a variety of album choices," and added, "Starting with the AILEE album, we plan to gradually expand to new releases by artists from Hybe Labels."

Since July 2022, Hybe has been releasing albums by artists such as BTS' J-Hope, RM, Jimin, SUGA, SEVENTEEN, and TOMORROW X TOGETHER (TXT) as Weverse Albums.
