SEOUL, July 15 (Yonhap) -- Production company Seensee announced on Friday that “Matilda The Musical” will kick off in Daeseong D-cube Art Center on October 10.
“Matilda The Musical” is a based on a children’s book Matilda, written by one of the greatest children’s book writer of the 20th century from the UK, Roald Dahl.
The story unfolds as protagonist Matilda, a girl who loves to read struggles to protect herself from her abusive parents and school principal in order to find happiness.
“Matilda the Musical” which was created by the Uk’s prestigious Royal Shakespeare Company in 2011 first showcased at the West End of London while receiving total of 7 awards including “Laurence Olivier Award” and “Best Musical Award”, moreover, it was exported to the Broadway in 2013 and was awarded with 4 more awards including the “Tony Awards” and “Screenplay Award.”
In Asia and Non-Enlgish speaking countries it was first showcased in LG Art Center in Seoul South Korea, which attracted over 170 thousand people within 189 shows.
In order to select 20 of the cast to act out Matilda and her friends at Crunchem Hall Elementary school, production crew had to go through over 900 applicants. As for Matilda, Lim Ha-yun, Jin Yeon-woo, Choi Eun-yung, and Ha Sinbi were casted.
As for the adult actors, those who participated during the showcase of “Matilda the Musical” at LG Art Center, Choi Jae-rim, Choi Jung-won, Bang Jin-ui, Park haemi, Kim Ki-jung and 11 additional ensemble members will return. Moreover, Jang Ji-hoo, Seo Man-seok, Cha jung hyun and more will participate in the musical.
