SEOUL, Jan. 7 (Yonhap) -- Netflix on Wednesday marked the 10th anniversary of its global service launch, including in South Korea, and released a list of "10 interesting keywords" highlighting records set by globally popular Korean content.

Since Netflix began compiling its Global Top 10 rankings five years ago, more than 210 Korean titles have made the list, led by "Squid Game," which set an unprecedented record as the first non-English series to top the chart and remains the most-watched title by total viewing hours.

Korean content first entered the Global Top 10 in July 2021 with the releases of "The 8th Night" and "Kingdom: Ashin of the North."

"Squid Game" holds the record for the longest stay on the Global Top 10, ranking for 32 consecutive weeks and remaining at No. 1 for nine weeks — the longest such run not only for Korea but worldwide.

In Japan, "Crash Landing on You" stayed in the Top 10 for 72 consecutive weeks, while "Boys Over Flowers" ranked for 49 straight weeks in Bolivia. In Pakistan, "Vincenzo" remained in the national Top 10 for 45 consecutive weeks.

The top five Korean titles most frequently added to users’ notification lists ahead of release were "Squid Game," "The Glory," "Hospital Playlist," "Sweet Home" and "When Life Gives You Tangerines."

Netflix also noted a unique subscriber record, saying some members who joined the service on Jan. 7, 2016 — the day Netflix launched in South Korea — have maintained their subscriptions to this day.

A Netflix official said, "We extend our gratitude to subscribers, Korean creators and industry professionals who have been with Netflix over the past 10 years," adding, "We will continue to create special moments with Korean subscribers and the local creative ecosystem over the next decade and beyond."
