SEOUL, July 26 (Yonhap) -- "I've worked hard to earn the title of 'g.o.d' that comes before my name. However, I think it's time for me to be labeled as an actor. I'll do my best and make sure I can earn this new title."
In a recent online interview with Yonhap News Agency, Danny Ahn, the main rapper of South Korean music group g.o.d, explained his experience of acting in KBS 2TV's Friday drama "Imitation."
Having played small but significant roles in "Fantasy Tower," "Witch's Castle," "Big Issue," and "Level Up," Ahn has challenged to transform himself into playing the role of Jihak, a CEO of an agency, who represents his singers and sticks to principles under any circumstances through 'Imitation.'"
"Jihak is like 'Daddy-Long-Legs' since he is a serious yet gentle mentor to his juniors. Before this role, I have only played mischievous characters so I practiced a lot in order to properly deliver Jihak's character," Ahn said.
Debuting as a first-generation idol group "g.o.d," Ahn confessed that it reminded him a lot about his past when filming for "Imitation" since the drama revolves around stories about idol group members.
"Whilst I was reading the script, it reminded me of the time when g.o.d was in full swing. In particular, during the scene where the idol group Tea Party debuts, it reminded me of when g.o.d debuted. I remember our group having a hard time practicing and there were a lot of moments when we wanted to give up."
This year marks g.o.d's 22nd debut anniversary and Ahn mentioned how "time seems to have gone by too quickly," adding, "I've recently seen a lot of g.o.d fans on set and I realized that a lot of time has passed, but I'm proud of it."
Ahn also thanked his fans for playing the role of "Daddy-Long-Legs" for him over the years.
"When I was an idol member, my fans acted like Jihak to me. They always trusted in us and supported g.o.d."
"Fellow idol group members who I've met during filming for 'Imitation' often ask me how to maintain a group for a long time," Ahn said. "I always advise them to reconcile properly after having a fight in order for the group to last a long time. I think g.o.d did a good job in solving our problems whenever there was any sort of disagreement."
Regarding the recent discord amongst first generation K-pop idol groups, Ahn said, "I'm cautious to say this, but I think it's natural to have problems when more than two people are gathered together as a group. The important thing is to know how to resolve issues in the right manner, and I hope everyone can get through it well."
"I want to be an actor who can pull off various roles well in the future," Ahn added. "These days, drama genres have become diverse due to different existing media platforms. I want to challenge all of those genres."
"'Imitation'" is like the beginning for me. While preparing for this drama, I gained a lot of greed and motivation about acting. I want to reflect and sincerely think about acting and challenge myself for more roles."
