SEOUL, Jan. 8 (Yonhap) -- Supergroup BTS’ English single “Butter” sold nearly 3 million copies last year, ranking first on the Gaon Chart Annual Album Charts.
A total of 2,999,407 copies of BTS' “Butter” were sold last year, topping the Annual Album Chart, according to Gaon Chart operated by Korea Music Content Association, Friday.
The Gaon Album Chart lists the domestic and international sales of albums released in Korea and ranks the physical album shipments.
The Korea Music Content Association said, “BTS's Butter, which was released only once last year, ranked No.1 on the annual album chart and topped the album chart for the sixth consecutive year," adding, "It also topped the annual retail album chart."
BTS is the only group that has been certified as a "Quadruple Million,” given to albums with sales of more than 4 million copies.
The 4th regular album, “Map of the Soul: 7” and the mini-album “Map of the Soul: PERSONA” have been certified as "Quadruple Million" by Gaon Charts, with sales of more than 4 million copies.
NCT 127 and NCT DREAM ranked second and third on the annual album chart, respectively.
NCT 127's 3rd full album "Sticker" sold 2,427,559 copies last year, while NCT Dream, another subunit of the group, sold 2,097,185 copies with its 1st full album "Taste."
Singer IU had the honor of No. 1, according to last year's analysis of digital music and streaming charts.
IU's "Celebrity" topped the annual digital chart compiled by the streaming, downloading, and BGM sales. The song also topped the streaming chart.
Trot singer Lim Young-woong topped the Download chart category on the Gaon Music Chart.
Lim’s “My Starry Love” and “Love Always Run Away” ranked No.1 and No. 2 respectively, on the annual charts.
Meanwhile, as a result of summing the album sales released from January 2011 to November 2021, BTS showed 32,783,223 sales, exceeding 30 million cumulative sales.
Three representative K-pop boy groups, NCT (15,773,729), EXO (14,443,618), and Seventeen (12,201,354), achieved a cumulative sales record of 10 million copies.
TWICE had the highest cumulative sales of 7,299,94 copies among girl groups,
