SEOUL, July 26 (Yonhap) -- JYP Entertainment announced on Tuesday, they will collaborate with U.S. local record label to make a girl group based on K-pop system,
JYP confirmed that they will team up with Republic Records under Universal Music in the U.S. to launch girl group debut project “A2K,” who will perform mainly in English-speaking countries such as the United States and Canada.
JYP will hold auditions in five U.S cities, starting Atlanta on Sep. 10, Chicago on Sep.14, New York on Sep. 17 to Sep. 18, Dallas on Sep. 20, and Los Angeles on Sep. 23 to Sep. 25, to select candidates for the group.
Candidates who pass the audition will be trained in JYP ‘s head office in Korea.
Republic Records signed with artists like Taylor Swift, Ariana Grade, Weekend, Drake, Postmalon, John Legend, and Lil Wayne.
JYP has been continuing the partnership, which first formed to target Twice's global market, with Republic Records since 2020.
JYP CEO Park Jin-young said “A2K is JYP and my biggest project,” adding, “Other than the fact that U.S is world’s biggest market, the reason why I create U.S. artist based on K-pop system is, I established JYP based on U.S. record label Motown Records as well.” Motown Records once signed with artists such as Steve Wonder and Marvin Gaye.
Monte Lipman, CEO of Republic Records, showed excitement saying, "If JYP's extraordinary value and musical know-how are combined with American artists, it will be an opportunity to create a world-class super girl group in the global music market."
